How long after dyeing hair, do I have to wait to add highlights?

I had my hairdresser put in a medium golden blonde color with lowlights today and while I like the base color and the warmth, it is just too dark for me. Not sure if I should highlight or just completely recolor with a light golden blonde. Any suggestions and how long should I wait to do either? I wanted that Jenny mcCarthy color and cut, got the cut right, just not the color.

you can do it all at the same time. it's called tone on tone highlighting.

i'm a colorist and i use this technique all the time. i apply the base color first, then get my highlight and lowlight and do the foils. it all processes at the same time, and you get highlights that totally compliment the base.

ask your stylist about this technique.

You can get it done almost immediately after you get your hair dyed. I used to dye my hair red and get chunky strawberry blonde highlights put in the same day. Some people don't do it in the same day because they think it will damage there hair. As long as you use moisturizing shampoos and a deep conditioner for a week or so, you should be fine.
